How to run a roleplay scene on CarbonNetwork Creative

Roleplay on CarbonNetwork’s Creative server is built around scenes: a saved set of marked spots, a cast and settings. How to join one, start one from a preset or from scratch, let the cast build in marked areas, and run it, with dice in every game and character sheets and fights for games that want D&D rules.

A game is a saved roleplay scene with marked spots, a cast and its own settings.

Not just for stories: Events & competitions has races, build battles and more.

Join

/rp browse lists public games and any invite-only ones you're invited to. Click one to join. You can be in one game at a time. Joining doesn't move you; /rp start does.

While you're in a game, the sidebar shows its host, what it's about, your role and who's in it, plus your HP, AC and conditions in a game using D&D rules.

Build

Start from a preset. /rp browse → Create game, pick a kind of game (or Blank) and name it. The roles, costumes, mood, triggers and description come filled in. You build the place.

Setup lists what's left to place: Manage → Setup, or /rp setup. Click a step to get an item for it, like Place: Detective. Its description says where it goes and what to build there. Stand there and right-click, and you get the next one. /rp start waits until the required steps are done.

Manage → Game Details → Save as preset keeps your own setup for next time, without its spots. You can keep 3. Apply preset, beside it, fills in a game with nothing placed yet.

/rp creategame <name> [public|invite|private] [preset]

The name is one word, no spaces. Games are private unless you or the preset pick otherwise. Leave out the preset for a blank game.

/rp manage opens on four categories: Lobby & Access, Roles & Characters, Scene & World and Game Details, with Setup under them on a preset game. The bottom row: Lobby, D&D rules, Enter Edit Mode, Delete Game.

You rarely need to type the game name. [game] is optional on every /rp command. Leave it out and it picks the game with players in it, then one with an open lobby, then your newest. Only name it when you mean a different game.

Enter Edit Mode hands you a kit; each item captures your exact position and facing.

ItemDoes
Blaze RodRole point — named, optionally required
StickExtra point — for players with no role
Eye of EnderLocation point — a teleport target / trigger area
End RodProp
BrickBuild area — click one corner block, then the opposite one
ChestOpens Manage. You stay in edit mode
BarrierFinish

While a Setup step waits, its Place: item comes first, in your hand. A required role blocks /rp start until someone fills it. Your inventory always comes back, whether you finish, disconnect or the server reloads.

Settings

Most tiles toggle with a click:

CategoryTiles
Lobby & AccessLobby · Visibility · Invites · Hide outsiders · Keep lobby open on end · Restore on end
Roles & CharactersRoster · Randomize Roles · Extra participants · Role Costumes · Character cards · Label Cards
Scene & WorldPoints · Show trigger areas · Game Triggers · Build areas · Scene Mood · Camera Paths
Game DetailsDescription · Browse Icon (your held item) · IC chat · Capabilities · Save / Apply preset
  • Extra participants — same spot, or spread out
  • Hide outsiders — non-participants become invisible both ways (needs a rank)
  • IC chat — Proximity (limited range, bystanders may overhear) or Lobby (whole roster, any distance, never overheard)

Build areas let the cast build in part of your plot. Mark a box with the Brick, both corners on your plot, then turn on Manage → Scene & World → Build areas → Players can build. While the game runs the cast can place and break blocks inside the boxes and nowhere else. It stops at /rp end. Buckets, fire and mobs stay off.

Cast

Roles & Characters → Roster — click a head to cycle their role, shift-click to kick. Roles & Characters → Randomize Roles — shuffle everyone across your labels. Lobby & Access → Invites — click a head to toggle. Only matters when visibility isn't public.

Run

/rp start teleports the cast, applies mood + costumes, fires start triggers
/rp end fires end triggers, then puts everything back
/rp resetscene clears trigger progress mid-game, to replay a beat

Dice, sheets and fights

Dice work in every game, typed in any order:

/rp roll a d20
/rp roll 2d6+3 any dice: 4d6kh3, 2d20kl1, d%
/rp roll d20 adv advantage (dis for disadvantage)
/rp roll 2d6 secret only you and the owner see it

Only your game's players and its owner see rolls. A natural 20 or 1 gets called out.

D&D rules are off unless the owner turns them on: the D&D rules tile at the bottom of Manage. With them on, everyone gets a character sheet for that game: /rp sheet, or pause menu → Character sheet. Click a skill, save or ability to roll it, or type it: /rp roll stealth adv, /rp roll dex save. The dye at the bottom switches between a straight roll, advantage and disadvantage. Click your head to set level, HP, AC and scores; the book marks what you're proficient in.

Running the table. With D&D rules on, the owner is the DM. /rp dm, or Manage → DM Screen:

TileWhat it does
Party headsHP, AC, passive Perception, conditions. Click for their sheet, right-click to damage or heal, shift-click for inspiration
Start a fightEveryone rolls initiative. The order shows in a bar at the top, and players get an End turn button
Add a creatureName, initiative bonus, HP, AC. Add them before the fight to roll together
Group checkOne skill for the whole party. Only you see the results
Diced4 to d100, behind the screen
Long restShift-click. Everyone back to full HP

At 0 HP a character falls unconscious and rolls death saves from their sheet. To turn D&D rules off, shift-click the DM Screen tile. Sheets are kept if you turn them back on.
