Dungeons

Easy3 min read

A dungeon is a game with Survival mode on. Players fight through it in survival, die back to the last checkpoint, find loot, and clear it at the exit. Dungeons work the same on Creative, SMP and Skyblock.

Play one

/dungeons lists every dungeon you can join. /games is the same as /rp, and its browser has a Showing button in the corner to switch between all games and dungeons.

Right-click a game in the browser to see its settings before you join: who's hosting, who's in, which roles are open, the rules, what the host can do to you, and for a dungeon what happens to your inventory. Once you've joined, /rp → Game settings shows the same page.

When the dungeon starts:

  • You play in survival. Your game mode comes back when you're done.
  • With a temporary inventory, your own items are put away safely and you get the dungeon's starting kit. When you finish, leave or the game ends, the kit goes and your own things come back. With your own inventory, you play with what you brought.
  • Dying sends you back to your last checkpoint, and you keep what you carry.
  • The exit clears the dungeon. Everyone in the game sees your time and deaths, and you're sent back where you were.
  • /rp leave walks out at any time, with your own things back.

Build one

Start from the preset. /rp browse → Create game → Dungeon. It comes with three monster rooms, a checkpoint, a boss room, a treasure room and an exit. Setup lists the spots to place, as for any preset.

Or turn any game into a dungeon: Manage → Lobby & Access → Survival mode. Two tiles appear under it:

TileWhat it does
InventoryTemporary: players get the starting kit and their own things back at the end. Their own: they play with what they brought
Starting kitClick to save your inventory as the kit. Shift-click to clear it

These can't change while the game is running.

Dungeon actions

Add these to any point's triggers (Manage → Scene & World → Points) or to a game event, like any other action. They only do something in a game with Survival mode on.

ActionWhat it does
Spawn MobsSpawns monsters at the point. Left-click a mob for 1, shift-click for 3, right-click for 5. From a game event they spawn at the player
CheckpointWhere the player comes back after dying: the point, or where they stand from a game event
Give LootGives a copy of the item you're holding when you add it
Finish DungeonClears the dungeon for that player and takes them out

Monsters belong to the game: they're gone when it ends, and a game can't have more than 40 alive at once.

On SMP and Skyblock

Items there are real, so a temporary inventory stays inside the dungeon:

  • You can't drop items, open chests or ender chests, place blocks, or use item frames.
  • Only /rp, /games, /dungeons, /msg and a few chat commands work until you leave.
  • Monsters from a dungeon drop nothing, and nothing you mine or kill with the kit drops.
  • Give Loot only works with a temporary inventory. With your own inventory it gives nothing.
