How to claim land and found a town on CarbonNetwork SMP
Land on CarbonNetwork’s SMP server is protected by claiming it. Claims, who you can trust with them, and founding a town with other players.

Claims
/claim claim where you're standing
/unclaim
/claims your claims, the map, trust and flags
/claims opens a menu with tiles for:
| Tile | Does |
|---|---|
| Map | Who owns what around you |
| List | Every claim you own |
| Claim chunks | How many more chunks you can claim |
| Trust | Who can build on a claim, and what they can do |
| Flags | Per-claim rules |
/claims trust <player> /claims untrust <player>
/claims transfer <player> hand a claim over
Claims keep graves, mailboxes, notice boards and atlas entries safe, and most of these need you to own the land under them.
What a claim protects
A claim stops anyone you haven't trusted from breaking or placing blocks. It doesn't lock your chests: on SMP stealing is allowed, so anyone who gets to a chest can take from it. Keep what you can't lose in your ender chest. Chest shop stock is the exception, only the shop's owner can open it.
If somebody takes from your chests, you get a message, and for the next 3 minutes you and anyone you trust at Friend or above can attack them while they're inside your claim. Not if they're AFK. They're told too, so nobody gets jumped without warning.
New players (their first 5 hours of play) are the other exception: their chests stay locked, and they can't take from anyone else's. See Fighting.
Towns
A town is a group of claims. Land stays owned by whoever added it. Members get trust on the town's claims, so leaving a town never hands your build to anyone else.
